Movie Night Gift Basket Idea- With Printable

This Christmas we gave out some Movie Night Gift Baskets. I like this present because it is something you can give that encourages family time and is fun for everyone.

I made up a printable just to make it a little cuter!

So what you need-
Box to put everything in (a pretty basket would work too)
Packing (I used shredded red and green paper for Christmas)
Movies (I included one for the kids, one for the adults)
Popcorn
Hot Cocoa
Movie Theater Candy Boxes
Throw Blankets

You can add really whatever snacks you want or a nice popcorn bowl would be nice too.

Here are the printables- I did one for a Christmas Gift and one for a Birthday Gift.

My Sister's Amazing Children's Books

I am not posting a Tuesday 10 today because I have something even more exciting to share with you!

My sister has written and illustrated a couple children's books. She wrote them as gifts for her children and got them published on lulu.com.

The first one is called I Love You More. Here are a few of the pages.

The second one is called Prayers for My Princess. Here are a few of the pages.

Isn't she amazing- I love all the illustrations and the messages are ones that children need to hear all the time.

She does offer these for sale on lulu.com too!

Red Beans and Rice- From Zoe's Kitchen

It has been getting chilly here these past few days. I am going to share with you a great cold weather dish that warms you up both temperature and spice wise!

I made this recipe up several years ago when I was a vegetarian and I needed a quick, cheap, dinner.. My husband added his spin to it by insisting I add meat- but I think it is just as good without the meat!
I sometimes use chicken and sometimes I use turkey smoked sausage- both are pretty good!

So here it is-

Zoe's Red Beans and Rice-
1 large chopped onion
1 large chopped green pepper
olive oil
1 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes or crushed tomatoes (I have used both- I like the diced better)
2 cans Red Beans, drained and rinsed
16 oz. package of Smoked Turkey Sausage- chopped
4 cups cooked brown rice (I usually cook this the night before to cut down on prep time)
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Tony Cacheres Creole Seasoning (to taste)

Add olive oil, to large stockpot. Saute onion and pepper over medium high heat.

Once vegetables are tender add tomatoes and beans to the pot. Heat through, stiring occasionally.

Add sausage, rice, and all seasonings- stir well. Heat through. With the Creole seasoning you may want to add a little at a time and test to see how spicy it is. I like mine pretty spicy but the flavor is good even if you don't add too much spice.

Turn down heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes.

Serve topped with cheese or just plain.

The best part about this meal is it gets better as leftovers- the flavors mix more and are delicious!

Sweet Potato Pie with Pecan Topping- New Food Friday

For Christmas this year I decided to take a pie to my in-laws Christmas gathering. I technically have made this pie before (or one like it- I couldn't find the recipe!), but it was about 4-5 years ago so we will call this one a new recipe.

I used this recipe as a base, but I changed it a lot.

Sweet Potato Pie with Pecan Topping-
Makes 2 pies
Filling:
2 lb sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed- (3 medium sweet potatoes)
1 cup butter, softened
1 can (10 oz) Evaporated milk
2 cup white sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 unbaked pie crust

Topping:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 bag (10 oz) chopped pecans

Steam sweet potatoes until they are tender- about 12 minutes.

Put steamed sweet potatoes, butter, sugar, milk, eggs and seasonings in bowl and blend with mixer. You can also use a food processor for this step if you wish.

Place filling in unbaked pie crusts and bake for 55 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees F. Pie will puff up while it bakes, but come down later.

When pies are done remove from oven and let cool while you make topping.

Heat butter until melted on low to medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until mixture starts to thicken. Add pecans and stir.

Pour topping over pies and let cool.

Enjoy!!!
