One Down, Seven to Go

I stayed pretty busy this weekend with sewing and working on the house. We did fit in some fun things too. We went to see the last Harry Potter- it was amazing and I enjoyed it a lot!

This evening I finished one cushion I made from the portable cushion tutorial on Sew, Mama, Sew. I followed the tutorial pretty closely except for I didn't put the handle on and I added ties to secure them on the chairs.

I LOVED this tutorial. It was easy to follow and turned out great. This was my first zipper I ever sewed in and the first time ever made piping. Some of the things I loved about the tutorial:

  • The technique for making the piping casing was wonderful- and will be useful for making bias tape too.
  • There were pictures for every step of the project.
  • Making my own piping- so much cuter than buying it- worth the extra time!

I only got one completely finished and you can see it below on one of our deck rocking chairs. I bought too much fabric (oops!) and so on top of the 5 cushions I planned on doing I may do some back cushions on the chairs. So this project may take a while.

Here is the other fabric I am doing on our white "set" of deck furniture. I love the colors and pattern on this one.

Happy Crafting!

Yep- I am a Joiner!

I have decided to join the Hexalong over at Lily's Quilts- It looks like it will be a good learning project for me. I will probably only do a small project- maybe something to hang on the wall, as I have so many other projects going right now!

Hexalong
I have always liked Hexagons, but was too scared to try them. Since this is the summer I start getting over being scared of new techniques I just want to go for it.

I have been working on a project this weekend where I have used several new techniques, made my own piping, used a new method for making bias tape, used my zipper foot for the first time. And later on the project I will place my first zipper- I am kinda scared so wish me luck!!

Happy Crafting and thanks for stopping by!

Summer Sampler and New Sandals- woohoo for the summer!

Swim, Bike, Quilt

I made the third block from the Summer Sampler Series- Mosaic- But right now while I am posting these I realize that I did it wrong- I probably won't go back and fix it. I kind of like the windmill shape that it makes. This one took a little longer than the others but I feel like I am still doing ok. I am getting a little intimidated by some of the blocks coming up.

Check out the schedule for the QAL at Freshly Pieced.

I got some new summer sandals today from Target. I LOVE them- love the color, love the fit, can't wait to wear them the rest of the summer. Don't mind the bandaids on my ankle and my pasty feet- aren't the sandals cute!!
Happy Stitching/Crafting/Sewing!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Summer Sampler QAL

I have decided to join the Summer Sampler QAL over at Swim Bike Quilt, Freshly Pieced, and Fresh Lemons. All it took was a little encouragement from Marjorie at Marjorie's Busy Corner

Swim, Bike, Quilt

I decided yesterday I was going to join (It started on Monday, you can click the link to find the full schedule), then when I got home the internet was down following a thunderstorm. So I wasn't able to work on the first square last night. I picked out the fabric- didn't really want to spend money, but I found some from my stash I had been hoping to use. But I did finish it tonight.

Disclaimer- I have only quilted squares before and a very small amount of applique, so this is my first time working with triangles. I was pleasantly pleased how fast and easy this was to do. I will hopefully get today's block done tomorrow after work or Friday.

Check out the flickr pool to see all the completed blocks. They are all soo pretty.

In other news- I have been actually using my craft room- it is not all pretty and set up like I want it to be eventually, but it is functional now. See the table my sewing machine is sitting on- I got it on Craigslist for $8. My husband doesn't like it but it has wings on both sides that flap up when I need to use it for sewing/cutting and there is storage room for my sewing machine and sewing box when we are having people stay in the room. I think it is a very useful piece of furniture.
