Oilcloth Lunch Tote

Do you want to win some oilcloth and an oilcloth sewing book?? Enter my giveaway here.

This project has been planned for a long time and I just finished it two weeks ago! For the longest time I was using a lunch box that I had bought in 2006 to take my lunch to work. Nothing special and it worked just fine, but then it broke.

I had seen a few of these cool Oilcloth lunch bags on Pinterest and I decided I wanted to make one for myself. So I didn't buy a new lunch box, just carried my lunch in plastic baggies for the past 3-4 months!! This is a big improvement :)

So I am carrying my lunch in style! I got the basic shape from this Skip to My Lou tutorial, but I added a liner and straps and made it a lot bigger so I can carry my rectangle pyrex.
I also sewed it together differently so that I could make the sides a different color from the front and back.

For the most part I didn't have difficulty sewing the oilcloth- I set my stitch length to 5.0 and sailed through. But then came time to sew the liner in and it bunched a bit- you can see it at the top. Not a craft fail, but definitely not as good as I want it to be. If I do this again I will try and use some of the tricks ModernJune has on her website.

If there is enough interest I can post a tutorial for the lunch tote to show the alterations I made to the original tutorial.

Linking up to some of these great parties!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

My First Giveaway- Sewing With Oilcloth

Today is my 28th Birthday- so to celebrate I am having my first giveaway.

I am very excited about this giveaway from Modern June.

Kelly, aka Modern June, has such a fun sense of style-  all of the items in her wonderful Etsy store are super cute! They made from Oilcloth, Chalk Cloth and Laminated Cotton.

I love these party banners- so fun- especially with the Chalk Cloth!

I really want one of these splat mats for my puppies!

Kelly's been very busy, she has an awesome new book, "Sewing With Oilcloth" that features fun, functional patterns with clear instructions and wonderful pictures.

She also has a wonderful selection of fun, cute Oilcloth, Chalk Cloth and Laminated Cotton in her Etsy store Oilcloth Addict. I ordered some oilcloth from her a couple months ago and it is wonderful (tune in tomorrow to see a project I made with it!)

Kelly just shared the fall Laminated Cottons- so pretty!!

Look at all the choices for Oilcloth!

Bibs (actually Baprons) for Baby Shower

There are so many awesome tutorials out there that I can not wait to try. The hard part is figuring out which ones to do first. Having a baby shower to go to can help bump some up to the top of the list. Craftiness is Not Optional has a great tutorial for Baprons- these cute bibs that baby's arms can go in.

I used oilcloth that I got from Oilcloth Addict on Etsy- I wasn't sure how much I would need so I bought four fat quarters- Aqua Cherries, Pink Strawberries, Pink Gingham and Red Dots. I have a bunch left over and I think I am going to make myself a new lunchbox with it.

The tutorial was wonderful- very specific and it was a VERY easy project. I did us premade bias tape so that was a little easier than making my own, but either way it would be easy.
