Crackle Paint Eat Signs

Kitchen decor has always been one of my favorite things to do- maybe because I love food so much, maybe because I decorate with fruits and vegetables- who knows. Anyway, the kitchen was one of the first rooms in the house we had decorated. But there was one little spot that needed a little something so I made these cute little wall hangings.

I found a link on Pinterest for how to make crackle paint out of Elmer's glue. I decided to give it a whirl and it worked like a dream. I was a little nervous when I went to bed that night because it didn't look that great, but when I woke in the morning the paint had dried and the crackles were perfect!

I bought the letters from Hobby Lobby and the plaques from Wal-Mart.  So here is how I made these cute little signs.

Paint the letters using this tutorial. Don't judge the crackle until it dries completely!

(This is what it looks like just starting to dry)

Cut scrapbook paper out to fit over the plaque.

Paint around the outside of the plaque where the paper won't cover.

Put ModPodge in thin layer all over plaque, place paper on top and ModPodge into place.

Once the ModPodge has dried glue the letters in place. Hang and enjoy!!

Fabric Covered Orbs

Last Christmas time I saw this post about fabric wrapped ornaments on Under The Table and Dreaming. I thought it would be a great project to help decorate up my lving room.

I got a bunch of styrofoam balls that were my Grandmother's over Thanksgiving and I used the leftover fabric from my Roman Shades as a starting off point for color inspiration. I really like how they turned out. I think they kind of look like round Easter Eggs :).

I love the way they look in my chicken wire basket I got at Hobby Lobby!

It was a pretty easy project that didn't take very long (once I started)!  I used my rotary cutter to cut the strips instead of tearing them. I also used 4 different size of styrofoam balls.

Here is the lengths I cut for each size ball

4" ball- 12 1/2" strips (3/4"-1" wide)
3" ball- 10 1/4" strips (3/4"-1" wide)
2" ball- 8 1/4" strips (3/4" wide)
1 1/2" ball- 6 1/2" strips (3/4" wide)

Place the first piece down with straight pins.

Then cover up each set of straight pins until no styrofoam is showing.

Interchangable Welcome Sign

As you know, I like to handmake most of the gifts that I give. I got the idea for my sister's birthday gift from Lolly Jane's Interchangeable Bunting Board. I wanted to make mine a little different- wrap the hangers around from the back instead of using the mini-clips like they did. I like the way mine turned out.

Materials:
12" X 12" board- luckily I had some leftover from this project (Hmmm, maybe I should make one of those for our house!)
Paint
Printer
Pencil
Nails
Scrapbook Paper, Felt Cut-Outs
Ribbon

I sanded down the board, painted it cream and then watered down some brown paint to give it a light brown wash.

For the lettering I don't have a fancy Silhoute or Cricut or anything so I used old fashioned tracing.
I printed "Welcome" out in a size and font I liked and traced it onto the board.
I painted it with two coats of brown paint.

For the bunting I nailed 4 nails in the back of the board and measured out ribbon to fit onto the nails.

The Christmas bunting is made out of Ric-Rac and felt cut-outs I bought from Hobby Lobby.
The Halloween bunting is made from Ribbon and Scrapbook Paper embellished with Glittery Bat stickers.

I have made a few more buntings to send to my sister, but I will let her see them before I post them on here.

I love this project because it can be displayed all year round either on a frame stand or with a sawtooth hanger!

I hope you enjoy it Camille!!

Gameday Dress!!

After I made the Rockstar Dress (tutorial posted here), my sister asked if I thought I could make a dress for Marley out of an extra football jersey for my nephew's team. So here is the Gameday Dress- toddler edition!!

I followed the basic tutorial linked above and just made it a little bit bigger on her so that my sister can put a turtleneck under it for those chilly football games. I also put little bows on the straps instead of buttons. Marley loves it and she can play really well in it- so comfy!!

I also made her a little matching bow to go with the dress.

So what do you think- does your little one need a gameday dress for this coming football season! Go out and make one!!

Cloth Napkin Tutorial

One of my favorite things is eating Sunday dinner at my parent's house. My mother has several sets of beautiful cloth napkins, but you can always use more right? So for my mother's birthday I decided to make her some pretty upcycled cloth napkins.

My sister had given me this beautiful paisley curtain that she wasn't going to use for anything. I clipped the rings off of it and started cutting.

This is a pretty simple project, so find some pretty fabric and let's make some cloth napkins!

First figure out how big you want your napkins and cut the cloth with 1/2" seam allowance on each side. I wanted my finished napkins to be 17" so I cut them 18" X 18".

Using my quilting ruler I marked 1/2" away from the edge in disappearing ink. Fold over 1/4" and spray with spray starch- press into place.

Should look like this- do it for all sides. Then fold over 1/4" again and press into place. Sew around all seams with coordinating color. You now have beautiful cloth napkins!

This is also my entry for the Blogger's Dinner Party for August.
